Sewer Services

Sewerage and wastewater from homes are safely disposed by MWSC, promoting a healthy living environment for the community.

Public safety is an essential part of our services. This is why we ensure wastewater is disposed safely while protecting the quality of life of people, marine life and surrounding environment.

Once your home is ready, you can apply for a new sewer connection, making sure the premises are finished or easily accessible for MWSC staff.

Applying for a new sewer connection
  • Filled Application for Water and Sewer Services.
  • ID card copy of the owner.
  • Copy of Plumbing drawing of the Building.
  • Copy of land registry.
  • Copy of construction approval from City Council.
  • If from a company/institution, a copy of company registration.
  • Details of other service(s) provided for the premise, if any

The location of any existing Sewer connection may be changed on the request of the owner.

Applying for a relocation
  • Filled Application Relocation of sewer connection.
  • ID card copy of the owner.
  • Copy of land registry (only required if the registration copy submitted with the initial connection changed).

Any existing sewer connection may be terminated permanently at any time by the owner. A permanent disconnection can be applied for, either in person at our office or online.

Applying for a disconnection/re-connection
  • Filled Application for permanent disconnection of Services.
  • ID card copy of the owner.

Catch-pits may be prone to wear and tear over time. Home-owners can request to renew catch-pits located in their homes.

Apply for catch-pit renewal
  • Filled Application for Renewal of catch-pit.
  • ID card copy of the owner.

The owner has the option to request the clearing of a blocked pipeline from the sewer catch-pit to the MWSC sewer mainline.

Requesting to unblock a house lateral
  • Filled Application for unblocking a house lateral.
  • ID card copy of the owner.
  • Copy of land registry (only required if the registration copy submitted with the initial connection change.d)

Oil Trap inspection is a Survey conducted to eliminate the possibility of oil or grease-like substances going into sewer network which may cause blockage of pipelines.

Oil traps installed by restaurants and cafes can be inspected from time to time, to eliminate the possibility of oil and grease being leaked out to the main sewer system.

  • Copy of land registry (only required if the registration copy submitted with the initial connection changed).

Sewerage service charges are determined based on the principles of affordability and equitability to ensure that the collection from the different categories of customers is sufficient for the management of a modern and efficient sewerage system in Maldives.

Service Requirements
  • If no separate registry is made for the divided land, each individual land will get a connection.
  • If the land is not divided but registered under several registrants, each registrant can get sewer connections.
  • Public housing/government funded flats will get a connection for every 10 flats.
  • Private buildings get a connection for every 10 apartments.
  • Sewer connection for above mentioned premises can only be given when the premise is finished or is safe and easily accessible for MWSC staff to work at the site.
